Everything On The Internet is True

I wanted to share this email I've received a few times this week. It says:

On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00AM the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06
This will never happen again in our life time.

My response: until 12 hours later at 1:00PM and the time and date will again be 01:02:03 04/05/06. THEN it will never happen again in our lifetime.

But don't worry...other than that, everything you read on the internet is true.

I think for every one of those emails I received at least two saying what you said here.

If you really wanted to be annoying, technically the first one is correct. I mean 01:02:03 04/05/06 happens only once, 01:02:03 AM 04/05/06 happens only once and 01:02:03 PM 04/05/06 happens only once, 01:02:03 04/05/06 and 01:02:03 04/05/06 representing the same point in time.

And I think that's the key point made by the first claim, "this" particular point in time only takes place once, not this naming designation representing some point in time is only used once. "01:02:03 04/05/06" alone is inspecific, unless you look at it in terms of "military time", then is quite specific to mean 1 hour, 2 minutes, 3 seconds, 4 months, 5 days and 6 years passed a starting point in time only takes place this one time. If you don't look at it in these terms, you would have to say whether you meant AM or PM, each of which occurs only one time.

Extending my point...

I guess it could happen to one person multiple times if they were able to cross time zones backwards in time, say travelling from the East Coast to the West Coast, such that they were in the next time zone within less than an elapsed 60 minute period. For as many times as they could get to the next time zone some point before the next 60 minutes passed, they could experience this "point" in time.

So, 1 hour, 2 minutes, 3 seconds, 4 months, 5 days, and 6 years past a starting point in time can actually happen as many times as there are time zones - 24 and as many times for one person as that person can cross time zones before the next 60 minutes have passed.

Bleh.
